The man had been receiving unemployment benefits from his Social Services and income for years. And yet, during this period he carried out a number of money transfers to – mainly – Morocco, his country of birth. This way he transferred a total of €44,000. It was striking that he put down himself as beneficiary in Morocco on several occasions. In other words: he could take out the money he sent himself from the Netherlands in Morocco when he was staying there. Such sums in combination with his very limited income and the absence of reported assets were sufficient to pass on his file for further investigation into social security fraud. This investigation may lead to the immediate termination of the unemployment benefit and recovery of the money paid.
